Refund policy

The tuition fees shall not be claimed back in whole or in part, by taking the following cases into consideration:

  1. if a student from the European Union member states prior to the first day of the term time requests the termination of its student legal relationship or the declaration of the term as a passive term, it shall be entitled to reclaim the full amount of tuition fee.
  2. if a student requests a passive semester or the termination of its student contract after the beginning of the semester’s term time, but within one calendar month of the first day of the semester time, the student shall be provided an opportunity to use 80% of tuition fee paid for the given semester to cover part of the tuition fee in a later semester, within 1 calendar year. Only students from the European Union may reclaim tuition fees that have been paid but not used.
  3. if a student, after the beginning of the semester’s term time, but within one calendar month of the first day of the term time, requests and receives permission for transfer to another academic programme within the College (with or without claiming passive status on the original academic programme), the tuition fees already paid must be counted against the required fees of the new programme; any difference (if the new programme has a higher fee) must be paid by the student, or (if the new programme has a lower fee) be refunded to the student.
If student wishes to transfer to the MSc programme on the Budapest Campus, a campus transfer fee of EUR 2000 has to be paid extra.
  4. if a student from outside the European Union has received the admission certificates of IBS for the permit application, student can apply for a refund only if his/her permit is rejected and s/he emails the full rejection document to IBS. No other excuse for the refund request is accepted.
IBS will review the rejection document and consult with the Austrian Lawyer before making a decision about the refund request, taking into account the following policy:
    - if student has not used the services of the Austrian Lawyer, there is no refund.
    - if the rejection is due to student's fault (e.g. s/he booked the visa interview without the lawyer/ s/he did not follow the instructions of the lawyer/ s/he did not communicate with the Austrian Consulate in a respectful manner/ s/he could not reply to the questions asked by the Austrian Consulate in comprehensive English sentences), there is no refund.
    - if the permit is rejected due to inappropriate documents student submitted, the application fee and EUR 2,000 from the tuition fee payment are non-refundable, the rest of the payment will be refunded to student.
  5. if the permit is rejected after student has already enrolled, student may apply for a refund until the last teaching day of the semester on condition that s/he has attended classes and submitted all assignments online as required by the programme regulations until the date of the visa rejection. IBS will review the rejection document and consult with the Austrian Lawyer before making a decision about the refund request.
Instead of a refund, student may request a deferral to the next intake, but EUR 400 will be charged for your first semester even if deferral is granted.
  6. if student has enrolled but does not receive the permit decision up to the end of the semester, student can ask IBS to defer his/her studies to the next intake on condition that s/he has attended classes and submitted all the assignments online as required by the programme regulations, but EUR 400 will still be charged for your first semester.
  7. if a student from outside the European Union has received a visa/residency permit for study purposes but fails to start or continue his/her studies, he/she shall not be entitled to reclaim the tuition fee. The registration fee is also non-refundable in this case.
  8. if the student from outside the European Union failing to start or continue his/her studies possesses a residence permit in Austria unrelated to his/her studies at IBS, he/she shall be entitled to refunds according to 1)-2) above. The registration fee is non-refundable in this case either.
  9. if student from outside the European Union decides to leave Austria or to transfer to another school, the application fee, tuition fee and the registration fee will NOT be refunded.
  • Please note that we can refund the fee only to the same bank account that you transferred it from due to strict financial regulations! The only exception is when it came from an exchange company, because it is not permitted to send money to exchange companies. In this case the refund can only be processed to the private bank account of the original sender.
